Non-Invasive Reuse of Existing Applications
iWay Terminal Emulation Adapters make it simple and cost-effective to build new applications that reuse logic and data from existing mainframe (3270) and iSeries (5250) applications. Since iWay Terminal Emulation Adapters integrate with the application's user interface, no changes need to be made to the underlying programs and total consistency is assured.
Reuse Business Logic and Minimize Overhead
iWay Terminal Emulation Adapters emulate a user interacting with an application. No adapter code needs to reside on the mainframe. Because the adapters do not require application code changes, iWay Terminal Emulation solutions can be deployed very rapidly. In addition, batch synchronization solutions can be avoided, thereby eliminating the redundancy, error recovery, storage, and logic maintenance issues that these types of solutions involve.
Flexible Deployment
iWay Terminal Emulation Adapters can be used in a variety of ways.
- They can be accessed as services that can be accessed from virtually any iWay-enabled application or tool on any platform.
- They can be deployed as an EJBTM, Java servlet, or JavaBean, incorporating any number of screens into a single HTML page.
- They can be accessed through any iWay Connector.
Simple Record and Playback Development
A complete development environment enables you to emulate, record, and play back a terminal session. Several modes are available to automate the development process.
- Web Template mode combines multiple screens into a single HTML page using automatically generated XML files and JavaServer Pages
- Java mode encapsulates the recorded sequence of screens, user keystrokes, and output data in a Java program. Simple calls to the program's methods make it easy to use the emulated sessions from a Java program, an iWay Connector, or an iWay Business Service.
- Remote Procedure Call mode interacts with the terminal and returns the result to the calling program as if it were the result of a relational database request.
- Disconnected mode captures all information about a session, logs it, and then allows developers to access the information on their local PCs without requiring a live connection to the target environment.
