iWay EDI Adapter provides support for non-XML EDI message formats such as ANSI X.12 and UN/EDIFACT. The iWay EDI Adapter is integrated with the iWay Service Manager to provide bi-directional conversion of EDI formats into XML.

The iWay XML Transformation Workbench provides a Java GUI that can create and maintain custom EDI message formats and trading partner agreements. Once these have been built with the Workbench, the standard or customized EDI formats can be formatted as XML and integrated across HTTP, IBM MQSeries, Microsoft Messaging and Queuing (MSMQ), Oracle Advanced Queuing (AQ), TCP/IP, and SOAP protocols. Customized protocol support is available as optional listeners, including EDIINT/AS1 and EDIINT/AS2.

Broad Message Type Support

The iWay EDI Adapter supports the following standard ANSI X.12 message types: 204, 214, 270, 271, 276, 277, 278, 304, 323, 810, 820, 830, 832, 834, 835, 837, 840, 843, 850, 856, 880, 940, 945, and 997. Additional formats can be integrated using extensible rules and formatting capabilities of the Workbench. A set of templates are provided for UN/EDIFACT EDI formats including D00A, D99A, D99B, D98A, D98B, D97A, D97B, D96A, D96B, D95A, D95B, D94A, D94B, and D93A.

Easy Customization

The iWay EDI Editor is a component of the iWay EDI Adapter for building EDI dictionary files. An EDI dictionary file is an XML representation of an EDI transaction. Dictionary files are used for all iWay Service Manager transformations involving all types of EDI transactions (X12, HIPAA, and FACT). The nature of EDI transactions is very inconsistent. Each EDI transaction is completely different from every other one. In effect, every single EDI transaction type is almost its own unique data format. The iWay EDI Adapter makes use of EDI dictionary files to allow for flexibility and ease of use in combatting the inconsistent nature of different EDI transactions.

As an XML representation of an EDI transaction, an EDI dictionary file provides consistency across all types of EDI transactions. This allows iWay to easily deal with all different types of EDI transactions – to the iWay XML Transform Engine and supported message brokers, EDI is XML. If EDI is your input format for a transaction, then iWay EDI Adapter will convert the input EDI transaction to XML using the structure defined in the appropriate dictionary file. If EDI is your output, then the iWay EDI Adapter will transform the input file to XML, conforming exactly to the structure as defined in the appropriate dictionary file. That XML will then be easily converted to the correct EDI transaction for your output via the specified dictionary file.

The iWay EDI Adapter runs on OS/390, UNIX, and NT/2000 server platforms and provides integration with Web application servers and message brokers. Supported environments include IBM WebSphere, IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS InterConnect.
