Building Composite Applications With iWay Software
Rapid, Reliable Reuse
Composite applications combine their own code with business logic reused from other applications. For example:
- A Web-based purchasing system might need to tap SAP for current inventory levels
- A contact center application might need information from Siebel, Oracle Financials, and a mainframe
Composite applications represent a higher level of business process that orchestrates the activities of other applications. When supported by an effective architecture, they can be developed more quickly, deployed more easily, and modified or reused to support changing business requirements.
Composite applications also often form building blocks of Web services, and represent a great way to derive near-term ROI while gradually adopting a Web services strategy.
iWay Service Manager facilitates composite application development in several ways:
- By making enterprise applications accessible via industry-standard APIs, such as Web services and JCA
By making enterprise data, including legacy systems, accessible via industry-standard data access APIs, such as ODBC, OLE DB, and JDBC By providing integration and plug-ins for popular development platforms from companies like , , , and , and for integrated development environments (IDEs) such as the
Eclipse framework By enabling composite applications to simultaneously request data from multiple sources – a function often called By creating composite services that let composite application developers invoke high-level, business-oriented functions (e.g., process purchase order) instead of requiring them to use multiple low-level, application-oriented functions (e.g., process initial purchase order BAPI)
