Web Services Creation With Adapters

The iWay Software Universal Adapter Suite provides the world's most comprehensive adapter technologies for creating and deploying Web services from existing systems with the smallest amount of custom code.

Reduced Code

No one should confuse the ease of using Web services interfaces with the difficulty of making Web services a reality.

For example, SOAP calls aren't magically associated with a given transaction. A developer has to write a piece of code that receives the incoming SOAP message, parses it, handles inbound errors, interacts with the transaction, handles outbound errors, reformats an outgoing SOAP message, and sends it back to the receiver.

The iWay Software Universal Adapter Suite automatically manages all of those requirements, eliminating the need to hand-code Web services wrappers.

This is a direct result of our integration specialty. In traditional EAI, a piece of code that manages the interactions of a requesting tool with an application is called an adapter. A Web services publishing tool is a special case of an adapter, in which the requesting tool is assumed to use a SOAP-based interface.

In other words, behind every good Web services implementation is a rich adapter set. Not one that uses low-level, proprietary, code-intensive adapters found in most integration suites, but sophisticated, code-free adapters with rich features, powerful metadata and introspection capabilities, and – most importantly – a complete framework that provides consistency across every adapter in the suite.

Just as iWay Software has been the leading vendor of adapter technologies since its inception, it currently provides the most effective way to create Web services from any of seven classes of adapter – 300 adapters in all. The following components of the iWay Universal Adapter Suite collaborate to make Web service publishing and deployment fast and effective:

  • iWay Business Services Provider manages Web services runtime requirements
  • iWay Application Explorer, a GUI tool for adapter introspection and management, instantly generates the WSDL needed to interact with our adapters as Web services
